(song of the day: love you i do, jennifer hudson)

i'm just posting this, and then i'll get back to studying, i promise! today i'm cataloguing some alternatives to headbands. not that i don't LOVE a good headband, but sometimes i want to change things up.

option #1: a hairband - literally. the other day when i went to the youth group barbecue, i was running late and tearing the house apart cause i couldn't find a hairband that matched what i was wearing, i was kinda thinking "what would match better than my own hair?"

the how to for this one is actually pretty easy. considering i wasn't really following a "recipe." after straightening my hair, i pulled by bangs forward and tied the rest in a ponytail so i could see what i was doing. i lifted up about 1 cm of hair right where my bangs stopped on both sides of my part. i employed the french braiding technique - picking up more in the same 1cm track until i'd reach the end. then i secured them in the back with a bobbypin or to, and ditched the ponytail. voila! i'm not gonna lie, i really like how it came out.

option #2 - use a necklace. last week i was heading out to celebrate victoria day and watch the finale of gossip girl with rachel. headbands were a must! and so were pearls, so i combined the two. it's actually my mom's pearl necklace from the 80s. i was wearing it in my first catlogue look actually, back at the old blog. this one again is super simple, i just folded the necklace and secured it with a little clip in the back, i was trying it out and it actually looks cute with a whole bunch of necklaces! youpi!

today's my sister's brithday. she doesn't know it but we've got so many suprises planned for her. i'm excited for that. and vicki tells me that our jason mraz tickets have arrived, i am SO stoked! needless to say, it's pretty hard to study right now. at least there's only one exam left. back to the books i guess.

(song of the day: here comes the sun, the beatles)

i hope it was beautiful where you live! today was tyhe first sunny day we've had in a while. i wore a dress (with tights, bien sur). but today i'm cataloging the good hair day i had on sunday!!! one of these days though, i'm going to get ready with enough time to take pictures BEFORE i go out so you can see what they really look like! one day though. haha! so! there's a number of things i'd like to call attention to in this top picture. the first being the light purple nail polish (OPI's done out in deco) that managed to last relatively chip free for the last SIX days! (read up on what i found about preventing chips here!) it did take me almost 45 minutes, but i haven't had to do touchups all week! so i'd definitely say it was worth it. unfortunately i don't have a better close up of the makeup. but my eyes were gold and blue!

because we're cataloguing, some detailed info. first i swept cover girl eye enhancers in golden sunrise all over my lids, and then i put a dusty stripe of annabelle's single eyeshadow in bleu nuit along the upper lash line. crazy? yes. but very cool. though i do have to say, this might look a little different if you don't have darker skin. although you're welcome to try it! if you're going to go with blue, i suggest one like bleu nuit, cause it's not TOO bold, or light... or too nineties =P haha. on to hair!

have you heard about bumpits? i've been hearing about them everywhere lately. and i'm slowly beginning to wade my way into it. for sunday service i tried to add a little bump to my regular half updo. it was pretty cute if i do say so myself. but it was hard for me to get it to stay! i took the top part of my hair and used a hairdryer and a round brush to poof it up from underneath. then i clipped it kind of in the middle of my head and hair sprayed the thing like crazy. (i actually use a drug store brand natural hairspray. it smells good - not like aerosol- and holds pretty well!) then i did my bangs and kinda flipped the ends out a little. because my hair was being so co-operative i decided to try and curl my hair for youth group at night.

i'm not sure you can really appreciate just how HARD it is to curl relaxed hair. like you really have no idea. i've had curly hair maybe three times in my entire life?? and the other two times i had to get my hairdresser to do it. i have a curling iron by revlon and i only really curled it from about half way down (i only had an hour) and i still think it looked okay! i got lots of compliments so that was nice! the only makeup i wore was blush (again, revlon's creme blush in blushing mauve) because i didn't want to make it look like i was trying to hard (which i was). but it totally paid off cause i got to talk to the guy i wanted. teehee! (and did i mention how AWESOME kristen is? she waited around for me to gather my cahones and talk to the guy so we could leave. beyond awesome)

anyway, my cousins are over! it's time for me to stop being so anti-social. have a good night!!

-xoxo.

Original Post Date: February 18, 2009

hello there! so today, as promised, i'm sharing my new favourite hairstyle! seriously, i've been doing this all week. i hate to say that i borrowed (and modified) the look from nicole richie.she's really not my favourite person but in that picture at least, she was really awesome hair. i'm not so much into beehives so i traded it for a simple chignon. instructions below!

1. keep short layers at the front to frame your face. (and this works with both side and middle parts!)
2. leave out a couple of longer sections on each side of the head to create the plaits. (i find putting two on both sides, à la richie, does look better, but it is more time consuming. it's your perogative.) as you braid pull them toward the back of your head. spray the braids with hairspray.
3. secure the braids and the rest of your hair in the middle of the back of your head in a ponytail.
4. twist the ponytail into a chignon. (easiest way to make a chignon: seperate the ponytail into a top and bottom have and twist them around eachother and secure it with any elastic.)

have bobby pins on hand, just in case. but don't be upset if a few strands come free, it's meant to look a little messy.

good luck!

nothing much to say today. but i'm determined to try and post at least one thing a day. which is actually proving kind of difficult. here's all i could come up with on a sunday night. for a while now, everyone's been touting this new (but now kind of old) braid trend, and i thought i'd give it a try. and i actually really like it! i tried it last sunday and wore a different variation all week. haha. it's so cute and simple! a nice alternative for me, the queen of just leaving her hair down =P apologies for the bad pic, but it's the only one i had ready.
here's a site you can visit for more braid styles if you care to check them out:

so i saw push and taken today. and taken was actually way better than i expected. which was cool. but then i ran into the HOTTEST guys from church which was certainly NOT expected. i was with my family, and not really dressed for that sort of occasion. you'd have to know these guys, they're so hot it's intimidating. for me anyway. i'm proud i managed to carry a conversation with them without melting into a pool of pathetic.

after the movies, me and my sister rushed home to watch the grammies, and i have to say, my highlights so far are: stevie wonder + jonas brothers = a musical orgasm, ditto the justin timberlake + al green combo, kanye's fro / mullet combo, coming to the realization that paul mccartney will never be "old", jason mraz (i'm not sure if he'll win, but the boy is handsome), josh groban's (small) appearance, the four tops tribute, robin thicke (he's smooth) and making jokes about the whole thing with my sister.
happy sunday!
